West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios
This year's event is on from 29 April until 21 May. The central hub of the scheme is the INSIGHT exhibtion at New Greenham Arts centre - this is where visitors can see a sample of the work of all the artists taking part (about 110 this year). There's a huge range of art on display including traditional painting and drawing, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, photography, textiles, fashion and glass work. The geographic area included spreads outwards from Newbury to include Reading, Basingstoke and Hungerford. All the events and exhibitions are free to enter and there's no obligation/pressure to buy - it's a chance for the public to meet local artists and find out what they do and possibly be inspired to take up a new hobby or perhaps they might just find a piece of artwork they fall in love with enough to want to buy.
All the artists will have either their studio/workspace open or work on exhibition in a chapel, village hall etc at some point during the three weeks. There are also group exhibitions and projects, ie at the Willis Museum in Basingstoke (all the artists from North Hampshire) and the 'Aspects of the Land' exhibition' at the West Berkshire Community Hospital just outside Thatcham. At the studios there will be a warm welcome and possibly a cup of tea and piece of home made cake. Some studios sell items for charity and at some there are also beautiful gardens to enjoy.
Below are 2 maps of participating studios, one centred in the local area and another further afield covering Basingstoke and Newbury. Full details on all participating studios can be found from the open-studios link at the bottom of this page.
