Cancellation of Second Covid Appointments
From the University Medical Practice:
It is with much regret that the 2nd dose Covid 19 vaccination clinic
scheduled at the University Medical Practice on Thursday 14th of January
2021 for Mortimer patients has to be cancelled .
This is because the vaccine delivery assigned to this site has been
redirected to other parts of the UK where some over 80s have not had their
first dose yet.
As soon as the University Medical Practice is notified when we will get the
delivery of the vaccine to enable the 2nd dose administration , we shall be
contacting patients to arrange a new appointment . This is expected to be up
to 12 weeks from the first vaccination .
for those affected , please do not contact the Mortimer Practice for your new
appointment as the University Medical Practice will contact you directly .
With sincere apologies ,
University Medical Practice

Gifting Suspended on Buy Nothing Mortimer
In light of the new government guidelines Buy Nothing Mortimer will cease gifting with immediate effect. We are in extraordinary times and are sorry to have to do this but need to comply with national restrictions to help people keep safe and stop the spread of Covid.

Helpline - Important Updates
The MVP helpline for the village has been operating for over three weeks now. After a rapidly changing, chaotic environment initially, we have adapted and now see a bit more structure and stability emerging. We are connected to lots of other groups from Council services to the NHS.
Childhood Memories of Mortimer
Having more time to think about things has some interesting results. On Friday 3rd April someone started a thread on the MVP Facebook page with
What are your most significant childhood memories of Mortimer?
For me they were:
Cakes Galore
Local resident Lucy Jones has been baking cakes and delivering them to those in isolation to help cheer them up and give them that lift that only a lemon drizzle or chocolate brownie can give! You can hear her story about 7 minutes in to Nick Carter's Kennet Community Radio Show of 4th April.
Loon Tin Donates Fish & Chips
Like so many local stores and services the Loon Tin has had to shut due to the coronavirus restrictions. But not before giving free of charge 31 portions of fish & chip to members of MVP Lunch Club and other vulnerable people in Mortimer.
VE Day 75th Anniversary
Postponed - possibly in August

The MVP STORY
MVP was formed in 2008/2009 by a group of villagers wanting to fulfil some of the requests expressed by the village in the second Parish Plan – more things going on locally for young families, more things going on locally for the older generation, and better communications, for example. You can see the Parish Plan on the SMPC website with the actions we set off to try and do.
