A community event, like this one in Mortimer to celebrate the King’s Coronation can have a big impact on the environment. Therefore, we are trying to plan Mortimer’s celebration with sustainability in mind.
BYOG – Bring Your Own (Plastic) Glasses
This year’s event will have a licenced bar selling wine, beer, cider and prosecco. One of the ways to help keep this celebration a free to attend event, was the decision not to invest in new plastic glasses. Therefore, we need everyone who attends to bring their own (plastic) glasses – BYOG!
If you have a re-usable plastic glass purchased from a previous licenced event, whether it be Burghfest, last year’s Jubilee event or something further afield, such as a past Latitude festival, please bring them along. Glasses need to have a CE or CA measurement mark on them. See Reusable_plastic_glasses .
We will have a small supply of unused plastic glasses left over from previous local events which anyone who doesn’t bring their own plastic glasses may be able to use. However, you will be charged slightly more for your drink if we have to use on of our “new” plastic glasses.
Please refrain from bringing any glass containers onto the Fairground for safety reasons.
Water Refills
Please bring your refillable bottles to refill at the taps provided.
Free Wild Flower Seeds
Local company, and one of our generous sponsors, J Mould, is inviting the Mortimer community to be more sustainable and help plant a meadow this spring.
Free packets of wild flower seeds will be available to collect from the Mortimer Coronation event Information Tent.
Waste and Recycling
All our event waste will be handled by local company, J Mould (Reading). They, like us, are committed to improving sustainability. Therefore, all the waste generated by this Mortimer Coronation event, whether it be plastic bottles, glass, aluminium cans and cardboard, will be processed at their local in-house Materials Recycling Facility and sent on for reprocessing into useable products. They typically aim to recycle up to 96% of waste collected. 100% of recycling is performed in-house by J Mould (Reading).
The organisers of this year’s event are working on other ways to reduce the impact on our local and global environment. Keep an eye out for more announcements as we get closer to the event.
If you have any ideas on how to improve the environmental impact of this and future village events, please contact us at Coronation@mortimervillage.org.uk
