MVP Lunch Club

Meeting friends and sharing food is a key part of living a fulfilling life, but for many in advancing years, the opportunity to enjoy this fundamental pleasure is limited or even impossible.

The MVP Lunch Club plays a small, but vital role for many, to help relieve loneliness and prolong independence in later life by providing a meeting point for older people in the community.

Running twice monthly (on the second and last Thursday) for more than 10 years, we can cater for for up to 40 lunch guests providing a warming bowl of soup, and the opportunity to share a cup of tea with old friends and exchange family news and old memories as well as making new friends and widen one’s circle of acquaintances.

With lots of support from local businesses over the years such as Budgens, DeVere Estates and TK Travel; plus a band of dedicated volunteers, we are able to provide Christmas Lunches, Silver Sunday celebrations, Fish & Chips and the Occasional outing along with Quizzes, Games, Raffles and visits from children from our local school; there is always something interesting going on, both for the lunch guests and for the volunteers!

Some lunch club guests make their own way to the Community Centre (on the Fairground) whilst whilst the Handybus collects others from their homes….

During the difficult times we are all living under now, our activities have been somewhat restricted to ensure the safety and well-being of all our lunch guests  but the opportunity to get together and enjoy the company of others has not changed.  If you know anyone who would benefit from attending lunch club please call Rebecca Barker on 07515775464

If you would like to join the group of volunteers either on kitchen/serving duties or just to chat with our lunch guests or  if you are able to be an escort on the Handibus or lend some muscle setting up the tables for lunch club, please email me, Rebecca Barker  bbarkerdg11@gmail.com
