Meeting friends and sharing food is a key part of living a fulfilling life, but for many in advancing years, the opportunity to enjoy this fundamental pleasure is limited or even impossible.
The MVP Lunch Club plays a small, but vital role for many, to help relieve loneliness and prolong independence in later life by providing a meeting point for older people in the community.
Running twice monthly (on the second and last Thursday) for more than 15 years, we can cater for for up to 40 lunch guests providing a simple two-course hot meal, and the opportunity to share a cup of tea with old friends and exchange family news and old memories as well as making new friends and widen one’s circle of acquaintances. Day-to-day running costs for Lunch Club are partly supported by the members themselves through the £5 they pay to attend each time.
With lots of support from local businesses over the years such as our friends at DeVere Estates; plus a band of dedicated volunteers, we are able to provide Christmas Lunches, Games, Raffles; there is always something interesting going on, both for the lunch guests and for the volunteers!
Some lunch club guests make their own way to the Community Centre (on the Fairground) whilst the Handybus collects others from their homes. Handybus transport may be available for new passengers, please enquire
If you know anyone who would benefit from attending lunch club please call Rebecca Barker on 07515775464
