Meeting friends and sharing food is a key part of living a fulfilling life, but for many in advancing years, the opportunity to enjoy this fundamental pleasure is limited or even impossible.
The MVP Lunch Club plays a small, but vital role for many, to help relieve loneliness and prolong independence in later life by providing a meeting point for older people in the community.
Running twice monthly for more than 8 years, and catering for up to 40 local residents, the lunch club not only provides a warming bowl of soup (generously provided by The Elm Tree at Beech Hill, The Horse & Groom or cooked by our own volunteers), but also the opportunity to share a cup of tea with old friends and exchange family news and old memories.
With lots of support from local businesses such as Budgens, DeVere Estates and TK Travel; plus a band of dedicated volunteers, we are able to provide Christmas Lunches, Silver Sunday celebrations, Fish & Chips and the Occasional outing along with Quizzes, Games, Raffles and visits from children from both local schools; there is always something interesting going on, both for the lunch guests and for the volunteers!
Some lunch club guests make their own way to the Community Centre (on the Fairground) whilst volunteer drivers collect others from their homes….
If you know anyone who would benefit from a little company once a month please call Cindy Kimber on 07946585935 or firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to join the group of volunteers either on kitchen/serving duties or just to chat with our lunch guests or even if you are able to be a driver, please email me, Rebecca Barker email@example.com
