Mortimer Coronation Event

Mortimer Celebrates the King’s Coronation:

BYOG – Bring Your Own (Plastic) Glasses

Reducing Waste for a Greener Event

A community event, like this one in Mortimer to celebrate the King’s Coronation, can have a big impact on the environment. Therefore, we are trying to plan Mortimer’s celebration with this in mind. First step to be announced is how we reduce waste generated by the drinks consumed. The organisers of this year’s event are working on other ways to reduce the impact on our local and global environment.

Free to Attend

As you would expect, the cost of hosting a community event such as this can be very high. In order to keep this celebration a “free to attend” event, we also need YOUR help to keep on top of the costs.

This year’s event will have a licenced bar selling beer, cider, wine and prosecco. One of the ways to help us manage our expenditure was the decision not to invest in new plastic glasses.

Instead, we need everyone who attends to bring their own (plastic) glasses – BYOG!

BYOG!

If you have a re-usable plastic glass purchased from a previous licenced event, whether it be Burghfest, last year’s Jubilee event or something further afield, such as a past Latitude festival, please bring them along.  Glasses need to have a CE or CA measurement mark on them.  See Reusable_plastic_glasses

We will have a small supply of unused plastic glasses, left over from previous local events, which anyone who doesn’t bring their own plastic glasses may be able to use. However, you will be charged slightly more for your drink if we have to use one of our “new” plastic glasses.

For safety reasons, we ask that you refrain from bringing glass containers onto the fairground area.

So, help us make a difference this year by BYOG!
