Scarecrow Trail 2026

Entries are now open for the 2026 Scarecrow Trail.  The theme is ‘Game On!’ and this year we are encouraging scarecrow-makers to be as creative as they like, based on the theme of playing games.  So, what does that phrase mean to you?  What was your favourite game in childhood?  Which toy, or character from a board game or computer game might you bring to life in scarecrow form for the week of Saturday 24th to Sunday 31st October 2026?  Fun scarecrows will then be popping up all over the village to delight and entertain our residents and visitors during the half-term holiday. Well over 2000 people march around each year, making this a truly popular annual event.

The usual sets of cash prizes will be on offer to the makers (£50 winners or £25 runner-up), including the adults’ favourite, children’s favourite, funniest, most eco-friendly, and the chairman’s choice.  We are looking for new makers again this year – so if you have never yet stitched straw to an old hat, now’s your chance, and you could be in for the best newcomer prize. Please send your scarecrow-maker ideas to scarecrow@mortimervillage.org.uk

Full instructions will be sent to you, and the earlier you register, the more likely it is that your idea will be secured.  Early birds don’t get scared away!
