Mortimer Methodist Church Hall

Our September meeting will take place on Friday 8th September at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, West End Road, Mortimer, RG7 3ST.

We are very lucky to have Philip Hume, from the Mortimer History Society, coming to talk about the Mortimer family which gave our village its name.

The Mortimers, Lords of the Welsh Marches (and Stratfield Mortimer) and (nearly) Kings of England!

Philip promises a vividly illustrated overview of the history of the powerful Mortimer familyWhen the last male Mortimer died childless, the vast empire of lands, titles and a claim to the throne enabled his descendants, the House of York, to claim and then win the throne.

Philip is the author of several publications about the Mortimer family, including ‘On the Trail of the Mortimers’ (Logaston Press, 2016), and is the Secretary of the Mortimer History Society.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, and non-members are welcome.
