The Reading Haydn Choir are delighted to be returning to Mortimer to sing three vibrant pieces of choral music from the 17th and 18th Centuries.
Vivaldi's 'Gloria' has a wonderfully sunny nature and, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of his music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal. No wonder Vivaldi today remains one of the most popular of all composers!
Purcell's 'Come, Come Ye Sons of Art' is the last of many royal Odes he composed and was for Queen Mary's birthday on 30th April 1694. The soloists and choir combine with a succession of musical instruments to celebrate the Queen's virtues. Purcell is rightly lauded as the greatest English composer of his era.
Monteverdi's Beatus Vir is a superb example of this composer's highly dramatic style. Its character anticipates, on a small scale, many of the stylistic devices he later employed to such powerful effect in his operas.
Our Choir be accompanied by a small professional orchestra and soloists in what will be a truly enjoyable evening in Mortimer. Refreshments will be served during the interval.
