Mortimer Green Group

The Mortimer Green Group is for villagers who wish to take positive action to improve their local environment and reduce the carbon footprint of the village. As brand new group we have yet to develop a mission statement, a constitution or any committee structure. No doubt this will come in time. For now we are focused on two main projects - renewable energy and allotments. We do, however want to hear from anyone living or working in Mortimer about their environmental concerns, their new ideas for the village and contributions to existing initiatives.

Important dates for your diary

The group planning the Community Garden meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Horse & Groom at 7.30 pm

Renewable Energy

Whether you are worried about climate change, exasperated by increasing fuel bills or believe we are running out of oil, the way forward has to be generating clean energy using renewable sources. It is quite surprising to know that many Mortimer householders have already taken action and installed a variety of solar water heating panels, photovoltaic cells (electricity from the sun), back boilers to wood burners, heat pumps and other technologies to generate clean energy and reduce consumption.

Mortimer Green Group want to collect as many examples of these initiatives as possible and post them on this website. Our village is a resource and we will be able to learn from each other and support anybody interested in installing renewable energy technology.

We are also interested in any innovative ideas on reducing energy consumption.

 Allotments and Community Growing Spaces

Mortimer Village does not have any allotments - it did once but these disappeared in the 1970's. In the Parish Plan questionnaire from May 2009 nearly 200 people said they were interested in having an allotment. Mortimer Green Group is leading the campaign to find allotment and community growing space. There are two possible sites at the moment
