Renewable Energy

Photovoltaics

Solar electricity systems capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting.

Now is a great time to consider installing this technology in your home. From April 2010 householders with PV's will be paid 41.5p for every unit of electricity they generate using photovoltaics. If this electricity is not used in the home but exported to the national grid a further 5p could be paid. This is about three times the amount we pay for electricity. This new initiative means that the payback on an investment of £12,500 (the average cost of a 2Kwp system) is less than ten years and likely to fall as energy bills increase.
