Mortimer Fun Day Back for 2025

After a seven-year hiatus, the ever-popular Mortimer Fun Day will return on Saturday 05 July.

The event will be held on Mortimer Fairground and will be hosted by Mortimer Village Partnership (MVP) and Mortimer Music Live (MML).

For those new to the village, this event has been a beloved tradition for over a decade.  During the day, entrance will be free of charge to all.  Any help you can give in running this event would be really appreciated,  follow this link:  Click to View Volunteer Opportunities on SignUp

You can expect exciting arena acts including a walkabout dinosaur and a thrilling parkour demonstration (see below) alongside local dance, singing and acrobatic groups.

Classic summer fete activities including coconut shies and welly-wanging will also be happening! Local clubs and societies will be running these activities, giving them a chance to fundraise while connecting with the wider community. And, of course, no Fun Day would be complete without a Beer Tent, offering local beers and a selection of refreshing summer drinks.

Featured Group of the Month - April 2012 Mortimer Tennis Club

Mortimer Tennis Club has to be one of the friendliest tennis clubs around. With just over 50 members, we play on the two Parish Council-owned courts in the Mortimer Fairground. For a £40 (Adult member) investment a year, we play social tennis on a Tuesday evening from 6.15pm until it's too dark to hit a ball; and Sunday mornings from 9.30am to 11am. Your membership also puts you into a ballot to buy a few pairs of Wimbledon tickets that the Club are allocated by British Tennis. We host a number of social tournaments and picnics too at the beginning and end of the season, and we've also been to watch some of the larger tennis tournaments. There is no real dress code and our social play is more about having a good time, than having huge amounts of ability. If you're the next big thing in tennis then this is NOT the club for you!

However, if you do have a more competitive streak, we do compete in the Basingstoke League and currently have two Mixed teams, two Men's teams, one Ladies team and a Junior team. And our resident Coach, Rachel Hill, runs an additional Drills session on a Thursday evening (needs to be booked in advance), and offers coaching if you require it. Privately Rachel also runs tennis courses for adults and children alike : www.fit4sports.org

Our Junior section is growing; we have a team in the local league and offer Junior Club play on a Thursday evening from 6 -7pm. We are currently looking for a Junior Manager to organise matches, team selection and travel arrangements.

We have a website: http://www.socialtennis.com/ClubDirectory/clubpage.php?clubid=150  (which will be updated and refreshed shortly) and are rather active on Facebook, where further informal play is organised by like-minded members: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mortimer-Tennis-Club/147139505379707?sk=info

Our season runs from April to September, though League play and informal play does continue throughout the winter. Our first session for 2012 will be on Tuesday April 3rd! If you'd like to find out more or want to join please contact: Helen Townsend ; Helen@glyntech.com  or on 0118 9835093.
