Mortimer Fun Day Back for 2025

After a seven-year hiatus, the ever-popular Mortimer Fun Day will return on Saturday 05 July.

The event will be held on Mortimer Fairground and will be hosted by Mortimer Village Partnership (MVP) and Mortimer Music Live (MML).

For those new to the village, this event has been a beloved tradition for over a decade.  During the day, entrance will be free of charge to all.  Any help you can give in running this event would be really appreciated,  follow this link:  Click to View Volunteer Opportunities on SignUp

You can expect exciting arena acts including a walkabout dinosaur and a thrilling parkour demonstration (see below) alongside local dance, singing and acrobatic groups.

Classic summer fete activities including coconut shies and welly-wanging will also be happening! Local clubs and societies will be running these activities, giving them a chance to fundraise while connecting with the wider community. And, of course, no Fun Day would be complete without a Beer Tent, offering local beers and a selection of refreshing summer drinks.

1st Mortimer BP Scout Group

The last weekend of August saw children from the 1st Mortimer BP Cub and Scout Group head off to Rushalls Farm, Bradfield to take part in 'Camp Eagle Eye'. The weather was very kind and meant that all the cubs attending could achieve their Athlete badge which involved meeting the criteria in a variety of running, jumping and throwing activities. All the cubs also achieved their Observer badge which involved, among other things, following a trail of tracking signs, compass directions and cryptic clues.

All of the cubs really impressed with the effort they put in and they really rose to the occasion during the evening campfire with the toasted marshmallows going down very well. The traditional campfire singsong was certainly more enthusiastic than tuneful, but the comic sketches that all the children performed were a definite highlight. Everyone enjoyed the camp stew we had on our second evening, made over an open fire. Particular congratulations should go to the two lads who were invested into the group on Sunday morning - we welcome them to the group and wish them a very happy scouting future.

The 1st Mortimer BP cubs meet on Tuesday evenings at the Scout Hut on Birch Lane. If your son or daughter is currently in Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 and is interested in coming along for a visit, please call Chris Morsley (Bagheera) on 9332620.
