Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council was honoured to be invited by Bruno Peek, The Queen's Pageant master to be one of the 2012 official beacons celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on 4th June 2012. A working party led by Julian Earl was formed to plan the event which took the form of Proms in the Park.

The mix of entertainment from The West End singers, local performer Georgia Collins, from Willink School 's Junior and Senior Choirs, Willink Jazz Band, and the Girl Group 'TALK' plus superb theatricals, from the Anne Fraser Theatre Dance Company, made a hugely enjoyable evening. All of the performers were very professional in their approach and a huge credit to our local talent and to all of the teachers and coaches responsible for the many hours of rehearsals that enabled everything to seamlessly come together.

The pageant parade was lead by Byron Ray (Mortimer Branch of the British Legion) with representatives of local Scout and Guides groups, followed by the young Kings and Queens organized by Connie Bernardi.

The excellent aerobatic display was provided free of charge by the pilot who had inadvertently disrupted the last Remembrance Day Service. Thank you Steuart and Alex for this superb contribution.

The culmination of the evening was the Patriotic Music and the Official Beacon Lighting Ceremony. The Official Beacon was lit by Air Vice Marshal Barry Newton CB OBE. Flames shot 40ft into the night sky, producing an unique atmosphere on the Fairground.
