Bringing the Holiday to You....

Submitted by The Happy Hermit on 9 April 2020

As with many people, I'm currently supposed to be on my holiday. It's a trip I've been planning for over a year - I decided to organise a solo trip to India, a country that has always appealed to me - partly as half my family originates from Pune. But as CV-19 took off, my plane didn't. So, if I can't get to India, I've decided that India can come to me.

This essentially means that my day has consisted of;

  1. Going into my garden, applying sunscreen (the smell of it instantly takes me to a holiday anyway), and then somehow ending up getting burnt - like a true Brit abroad
  2. Sightseeing - this was a little harder but I went into my office and logged into Zoom (an online meeting platform), and changed my background to iconic buildings (Taj Mahal, Red Fort etc) and took photos of myself with those backgrounds.
  3. Spotting wildlife - part of the trip was to include a stay at Ranthambore to see the tigers. To be honest, it is quite unusual to see them in India so you can imagine how surprised I was when the below tiger appeared in my garden in Mortimer!
  4. Food - I have ordered an Indian takeaway from Buddy at Burghfield Spices for this evening. There was a minimum spend, which is quite a lot of food for one person, so I will be eating curry for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner - which is pretty much what I would be doing for the next 10 days anyway if I were away.

After my exhausting holiday above, I sat down to contemplate everything I had seen and experienced today, by sitting in my garden with a beer (Tiger Beer, of course).
