The Axemen came and conquered!
In the words of a small boy leaving Treasure Island Kids Zone, “Mum, this is the best day in the whole of my life”. On that measure alone this year's Fun Day was a resounding success. The headliners…the Axemen were great and again the spectacle of the Pipes and Drums was awesome…but around 6000 of you were there, so you will know all of that.
What you may not know is who the Fun Day team were who have spent more than 6 months planning this event. I would like to give mention and my thanks to the key team:
Elaine Gibbs for the best Pop-up pub in history, Gill & Dave Butler for outstanding arena schedule. Lynn Hannawin who brought us Treasure Island for the small children and Bev French for making sure there was enough tea and cake for the parents.
Richard Cairns, Chris Morsley, Dave Kilshaw, John Bull and Pete Blagden who managed the planning, layout, logistics, sanitation and all the behind the scenes work that includes pick ups, put ups and set ups!
A big thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets, this is a major contributor to our being able to finance the day and again Helen Udale-Clarke did a great job in getting prizes and arranging the ticket selling. Rachel James looked after the Tombola and gathered prizes from far and wide. Ali Richardson for everything money, budgets and insurances and Paul Mortimer who looked after all the PA systems across the site.
Rebecca Barker made it all possible through the support from sponsors and publicity and Julie Carter took care of the biggest market row ever with 95 stalls!
Carl Whistler managed the Big “Rides” and Danusia Morsley looked after Information Point and as always is my “backstop” to help me remember things. Last and by no means least Natasha O’Brian and Julia Meadows who took charge of corralling more than 120 volunteers working over 3 days.
Of course behind all of these people was a team of people helping and of course a number of local organisations including our friends at TiM and the local Scout Groups who help on the day and loan us equipment.
Lastly a big thank you, to You, the residents of Mortimer and surrounding villages, for coming and enjoying the fun and making July 4th 2015, one little boy’s “Best day in the whole of his life”.
