Mortimer Fun Day Back for 2025

After a seven-year hiatus, the ever-popular Mortimer Fun Day will return on Saturday 05 July.

The event will be held on Mortimer Fairground and will be hosted by Mortimer Village Partnership (MVP) and Mortimer Music Live (MML).

For those new to the village, this event has been a beloved tradition for over a decade.  During the day, entrance will be free of charge to all.  Any help you can give in running this event would be really appreciated,  follow this link:  Click to View Volunteer Opportunities on SignUp

You can expect exciting arena acts including a walkabout dinosaur and a thrilling parkour demonstration (see below) alongside local dance, singing and acrobatic groups.

Classic summer fete activities including coconut shies and welly-wanging will also be happening! Local clubs and societies will be running these activities, giving them a chance to fundraise while connecting with the wider community. And, of course, no Fun Day would be complete without a Beer Tent, offering local beers and a selection of refreshing summer drinks.

Scarecrow Trail

Mortimer's first ever Scarecrow Trail started on October 9th. The weather has been kind with many sunny days and not much rain. Over the two weeks of the competition there have been groups of all ages walking and cycling round the village, enjoying the scarecrows (and the exercise) and collecting the clues for the trail map quiz.

After much deliberation the judges, Sir William Benyon, Mr. Tom Shorrock and PCSO Steve Innes, chose Mortimer Toddler Group's Superman and Clark Kent, as 1st prize winners (£100), Dad's Shop with Bob The Builder second (£50) and St Oswald's Roman Catholic Church with Charlie Chaplin third (£25). The correct answer to the trail walkers was the sentence "Go to Mortimer Library and write down the day of the storytime sessions on the bottom of your map" and the answer "Friday"! A family in The Avenue were drawn from the many correct answers.

Beautiful photographs of the scarecrows taken by Nancy Nisbet were displayed in the Community Centre on October 24th at the prize presentation ceremony which was attended by a good crowd. The same photographs can be seen here

There has been much enthusiasm expressed for this event to become part of the regular annual village programme of events and MVP certainly intend this to be so. Perhaps you would like to help organise it next year!

You can see a video about the scarecrows here.
