The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

We all know that Mortimer is the best place in the world – it’s why many of us feel it is worth doing lots of voluntary work to enhance it further. But it is very special to have that work acknowledged by the outside world, in particular by Her Majesty The Queen.

The View from the Other Side..........

Usually, an excursion to London for me means a family sightseeing tour warranting flat, comfortable walking shoes, clothes for all weathers and a picnic-filled rucksack. An invitation from the Queen, to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace, therefore called for a whole new rethink, careful strategic planning and of course, a shopping trip!

Fun Day Reminder

Silver Sunday in Mortimer

Sixty Mortimer residents attended the first ever Silver Sunday event in the village on Sunday 5th October.  The initiative was created in 2012 by The Simon Milton Foundation in partnership with Westminster Councillors to celebrate, appreciate and acknowledge our older residents and their place in our communities.   This year there were events being held all over the country.

QAVS Presentation Ceremony

On the 18th November 2014 a group of MVP committee members and other people selected to represent those working on the Fun Day and Lunch Club attended a ceremony in Newbury where we were finally presented with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service certificate (signed by HRH the Queen) and the accompanying crystal trophy.
